A few notes from T Michael Bircumshaw
(Editor of AMERICAN SUBMARINER )

Subject: ARTICLE SUBMISION GUIDELINES
(How to keep your editor happy)

As with all editors I am looking for contributors with sea stories, facts and "this ain't no bull" tales to fill the annoying blank spots that threaten and demoralize readers and editors alike. Your comments and input are welcome and encouraged, realizing that not everything can or will be published, but every thing will be read and considered.

E-mail is the best (read that only) way to get on board. Crank up your Microsoft Word and do not attempt to edit or form it, just put the punctuation where it should be, indent the paragraphs, use only one period, exclamation point or question mark at the end of each complete sentence, and put it all in 12 point font, preferably Times New Roman or Courier.

In all cases the Editor will make the final decision on article inclusion.

If writing, and grammar, and punctuation are not your strong suits; get help! Use your spellchecker, the grammar aids on MS Word and your wife, kids, grandkids, and in-laws. To Edit, does not mean to Write, or to Ghost Write. If the article is important enough for our shipmates to read it then it is important enough for it to be written well and correctly. I will Blue Slip articles that are not in proper format and in anything less than 10th grade grammar and punctuation. A Blue Slip is very similar to not getting a signature on your Qual Card.

Life is Simple; Either you're Qualified or you're not!

Deadlines: Deadlines mean that any material received after "Deadline", is not alive, will not be considered, will not be used, will not be published, (ain't gonna happen) in the current "Deadline" edition.

The deadlines for the American Submariner are as follows:

15 June, Convention issue; to be in the hands of all members NLT 1 August

15 September, Renewal and Holiday issue; to be in the hands of all members NLT 1 November

15 December, New Year issue; to be in the hands of all members NLT 1 February

15 March; National Elections issue; to be in the hands of all members NLT 1 May

As a courtesy I will send out one (1) reminder on the 1st of each deadline month. It will be posted on the CO-BBS and sent in an E-mail to all POC and others who have informed me of their intent to submit. This is a business, in which I am charged with attending to what it is that I do best and everyone else is charged with getting their information in before Deadline. If we both (all) take care of business, we will all be content and happy.

AND EVERYONE IS ENCOURAGED TO BEAT THE DEADLINES AND BE IN EVEN EARLIER!
